Morning walkers at Cheluvamba Park foil attempt to smuggle Sandalwood tree

Mysuru: Miscreants made a vain bid to cut down and smuggle a sandalwood tree at Cheluvamba Park in Yadavagiri on Thursday as morning walkers caught them red-handed. Fearing police’s action, the miscreants have left the scene leaving machete and rope that was used to cut down the tree.

The incident came to light when some of the joggers and walkers arrived at the park only to see a Sandalwood tree being cut down by miscreants. When they questioned and protested, the miscreants fled from the spot. Such daring act right in the heart of the City speaks volumes about the measures authorities’ concerned have taken to protect the tree, observed walkers. “It is not enough to grow trees but measures must be taken to ensure their safety,” said the irked walkers.
