Mysuru: Maharaja Institute of Technology Mysore (MITM) in association with Ethnotech Academic Solutions Pvt. Ltd. has set up a centre of excellence to assist its students in their overall development through global certification programs and enhanced placement opportunities.

The centre was inaugurated by Adhichunchanagiri Mutt Seer Dr Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji by offering puja and unveiling the plaque of the joint venture.

Later in the evening, the programme to mark the launch of the CoE, was held at APJ Abdul Kalam Open Air Theatre in the college, which was inaugurated by the seer and other distinguished guests.

Ashwin Danappa, MD, KSDC, GoK, in his speech told the gathering that, “from his office, at least 60,000 youths will be trained every year and the scope for skilled students is very high in the job market”.

He emphasised on the importance of acquiring skills by the students through occasional trainings such as given by this CoE to be the future of this country.

Chairman of ISTE, New Delhi, PradapSinh K Desai, while addressing the staff and students expressed his concerns over the reports of country’s technical education system passing through a very difficult phase with ever rising requirements of the technocrats. He said, crores of engineers would be required by the year 2025 and the entire world is looking at India as we have the highest potential as we produce at least 13 lac engineers ever year.

On this note, he suggested the students be more proactive and become employable by adding value to the education they get through the conventional system to meet the global demand.

VC of University of Mysore Dr G Hemanth Kumar said “It is more important for the institutes to provide skills to students for getting placed than the placements and it is only better with collaborations such as Ethnotech and MITM”.

He opined that the CoE being inaugurated would certainly bridge the gap between industry and academia at large.

Chandra Koduru, GM, Academic Interface Program, TCS, in his address called for developing three sets of skills – Behavioural skills, Communication Skills and Job Skills – most essential for becoming successful in any walk of life.

He also said that it is difficult to reduce the gap between industry and academics as the pace of growth in industry is higher than the pace of adoption at the academic sector and only such efforts as this CoE can work in this direction.

In his address Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji advised the gathering with anecdotes.

He stressed on the point that even a single negative voice can influence the best of positive people and hence warned to stay away from such negatives.

He also recalled the link between the then Maharaja of Mysore, Swami Vivekananda and Jamshedji Tata in building the world renowned Indian Institute of Science (the then Tata Institute) and said how a saint like Vivekananda can influence the entire community and a nation at large.

He also cited the example of Japan and called for being more responsible as citizens so that the nation develops at a further speed.

He concluded by conferring blessings on the students, the institute and its new venture.
