MIT holds orientation programme for First Year BE students; launches exclusive Pink Bus for women

Mysuru: The Maharaja Institute of Technology Mysore organised an orientation programme for the newly admitted BE students at its campus recently. This year, there were 3,000 attendants including students, parents and staff at the programme. Former head of State Textbook Review Committee and noted orator Rohith Chakrateertha, Yarrappa R. Krishna, General Manager & Head – Remote Service Delivery, Wipro Ltd., and trust members of Maharaja Education Trust inaugurated the mega event. Dr. Naresh Kumar B. G., Principal, MITM, delivered welcome address and rendered the annual report of the college highlighting the achievements of students and staff.

After launching the video lecture series for the first year BE students (for all the engineering streams) created by the staff of MIT Mysore, Dr Vidyashankar opined that the line of difference between the engineering streams have diminished and with additional courses on offer, a student from any stream can switch over to any other stream of his choice.

The Vice chancellor’s address was followed by felicitating 15 scholars who completed their Ph. Ds during the academic year and the students who secured top ranks in their respective departments.

The rules and regulations at the college was presented by Dr. Mohammed Khaisar and Shivasagar SD, spoke about the placement opportunities. The facilities at the institute were elaborated by Aniruddha A M, Administrative Officer, throwing light on transportation through 75 buses, hostel, sports, library and the like.

Yarrappa R. Krishna, General Manager & Head – Remote Service Delivery, Wipro Ltd., in his speech reminded the students of the importance of these four years and ensured that there is no dearth of job opportunities in the country as well as across the globe. He also suggested that the students, apart from scoring good marks in the examination, must focus on acquiring skills and competence which will take them ahead of their contemporaries.

Rohit Chakrateertha, in his hour-long orientation speech, quoted examples from various texts to substantiate 6 points – exploratory instinct, identifying the best ability, hard work, belief in originality, human value and nation first – that he believed were important to be inculcated in a student through education.

Dr. Murali S., Chairman, MET, in his presidential address told students and parents that the will to continuously fight in life leads to success by giving multiple examples. He also announced ‘pink bus’, an exclusive bus only for women in selected routes by the college.
