Missing Jain seer murdered near Belagavi; search for body is on, as cops arrest two

Belagavi: A Jain seer who had gone missing from Nand Parvat Mutt at Hirekodi village in Chikkodi taluk was murdered and his body was dumped at a field in Khatakbhavi village in Raibag taluk, as confessed by two accused.

The accused were detained by the police after a missing complaint on seer was lodged by the devotees.

The seer is identified as Sri Kamkumara Nandi Maharaj.

It is reported that the devotees lodged a missing complaint on July 7 as the seer was not to be seen in the mutt. On Friday, the district police detained one person who spilled the beans that he had borrowed money from the seer and did not pay back. He along with another person allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate the seer to avoid repayment. It is reported that they murdered the seer and dumped his body in a borewell in Khatakbhavi village.

He was given electric shock and his body was cut into pieces, before throwing the parts in a borewell, it is reported.

The police with the help of earth movers are searching for the body in the village and SP Dr Sanjiv Patil is overseeing the search at the spot.
