Minister Somashekhar and friends donate Rs 73 lakh to Mysuru Zoo

1 min read

Mysuru: One WhatsApp message raised Rs 73.16 lakh as donation to Mysuru Zoo and majority of donors are from Bengaluru. Shocking as it may sound but it’s true.

A week ago, District Incharge Minister S T Somashekhar had visited Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens in Mysuru and had adopted an elephant calf called Chamundi. During his visit, he had learnt that the Zoo needs Rs 2 crore per month for maintenance. As it’s an independent body, it does not receive any grants from the government. The zoo has to maintain through the donors.
He not only adopted an elephant calf then but soon appealed to his friends and contacts in Bengaluru through WhatsApp to contribute to the Zoo. This helped him raise Rs 73.16 lakh from his friends in Yeshwanthpur Assembly constituency which he represents in the lower house.
Mysuru Zoo Executive Director Ajith M Kulkarni thanked Minister Somashekhar and his friends for generously contributing towards conservation.
