2 min read

Mandya: A letter alleging bribery charges against Agriculture Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy that is doing the rounds on social media is now being termed as ‘fake’. However, an investigation is underway to find the veracity of the letter.

The letter purportedly written by around seven assistant directors of Agriculture Department in Mandya district alleged that Minister Cheluvarayaswamy was demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh. The letter had taken the Congress government by surprise on Monday.

It allegedly said that the seven assistant directors of Mandya were under pressure to give bribe of Rs 10 lakh by Minister Cheluvarayaswamy, who is also Mandya district In-charge Minister. It further said that if this harassment was not controlled, they would consume poison along with their family members. This letter was later forwarded by Governor’s Additional Secretary G Pradeep to Chief Secretary Vanditha Sharma.

However, reacting to the letter to mediapersons here in Bengaluru on Monday, Minister Cheluvarayaswamy said that “Some are hell bent on creating tension. Previously, they tried to defame me in a conductor’s alleged suicide attempt. This was also one such attempt. The agriculture officials themselves have stated that this was a fake letter. Yet, I have requested the chief minister to investigate into it.”

Several reports quoted the minister saying that the joint director of Agriculture department has already held a virtual meeting with all the assistant directors and it has come to know that none of them wrote the letter. On the prima facie, it appears that this was a fake letter, said the minister adding he has asked the SP to look into it.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture Department Joint Director, V S Ashok clarified that no such letter was written by assistant directors of the department in Mandya, he clarified.

However, the BJP has sought to know what action the Congress government would it initiate against Minister Cheluvarayaswamy on corruption charges.
