Metagalli villagers chance discover hero stones! They are of Vijayanagar era

Mysuru: Three hero stones have been unearthed at Metagalli in the outskirts of the city. They are believed to be of 15th century of Vijayanagar era.

The hisoric edicts came to light when the villagers volunteered to clean the village. While one stone was buried in sand, two others were covered in weeds and shrubs.

Sunil Kumar a curator at the department of archaeology, museums and heritage visited the spot along with local Corporator Ramesh.

Sunil Kumar said ‘the stones form three sections of carvings to denote soldiers in the battle field in the bottom, angels taking martyrs to heaven in the middle and martyrs in eternity in the top section of the stone”.

Following the demand of the villagers, the department has decided to study more on the stones to find out the link between the village and Vijayanagar empire. While the villagers have also resolved to protect them for posterity.

Meanwhile, the historical findings have also brought smiles on the face of the people who believe it as a good omen.
