Medical education minister warns private hospitals of action

Bengaluru: Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar warned that private hospitals which do not join hands with the government in this fight against Covid-19 will face strict action.

The minister held a video conference on Thursday with senior officials to review covid preparedness in the city.

Minister said that “Government is focusing on ramping up testing in the coming days. There are several instances of private hospitals charging excess amount from patients and refusing treatment. Joint commissioners of all zones are empowered under Disaster Management Act and KPME Act to take action against such hospitals”, he said.

The commissioner can seek assistance from police department if needed. The government is taking all measures to ramp up testing in the city. This will enable faster tracing and treatment of the infected persons, he added.

Highlights of the video conference

• Government to utilise final year science students and MBBS students for testing tasks to fulfill the manpower requirement. Students who involve in Covid duties will be accorded grace marks in internals.

• Booth level task force committees to be finalized within 2-3 days.

• Zonal incharge officers to ensure testing targets are achieved as per the guidelines  and daily reports to be submitted to the in-charge officer.

• Asymptomatic patients should not to be admitted to hospitals. They have be home isolated or admitted in CCCs.

• Senior citizens with ILI and SARI symptoms to be traced and reverse isolated.
