Mysuru: The two-day Yen Samachara!! Media Habba- 2025 organised by the Karnataka Media Academy in association with the Department of Information and Public Relations and Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Mysore, was inaugurated at Humanities Auditorium in Manasagangotri on Thursday.

Vice-chancellor of University of Mysore Prof N K Lokanath, inaugurated the event and touched upon various subjects related to the field of media.

Prof Lokanath said, there are plethora of opportunities and possibilities in media, and the journalists should work with a sense of faithfulness towards the job, as it is very much essential in a profession.

“Education, being faithful to the subject, perseverance and a firm mindset, are the key points that should be adopted by the students to evolve as best journalists in the future,” said Prof Lokanath.

Nowadays journalism has undergone numerous changes, with only one subject being a topic of discussion. In the age of digital media, the habit of reading among kids is dwindling. A true journalist should read first and share insights on the articles you write. The news should be accurate, without digressing from the subject, advised Prof Lokanath.

Of late, fake news is going viral than the real news. The future of Journalism lies in the hands of current breed of scribes, and if one wants to be the best in the realm, they should develop the quality of analysing the subjects with a different perspective. A deep study is the key, and apartments from understanding the truth, the journalists should correct the society.

In this digital era, the access to news is quick, thus keeping the children away from the habit of reading newspapers. The children should develop the habit of reading newspaper as far as possible, said VC Prof Lokanath.

Former Executive Editor of NDTV Maya Sharma, information is the main driving force, hence the journalists are facing many challenges. The media is becoming one sided, but the journalists should practice ethics and values, that can be imbibed through continuous learning and practice.

“We should be ready to adapt to the changes. The beginners in media should be mentally ready to meet the aim and develop the qualities of being simple. Most importantly, they should be aware of fake news, with WhatsApp often being mocked as ‘WhatsApp University’ for spreading misinformation. The Artificial intelligence (AI) has both positive and negative to offer, but one should use it for the good,” said Maya Sharma.

Chairperson of Karnataka Media Academy Ayesha Khanum said, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister have great concern towards all the fields including media, that has made Media Habba, a reality.

“When there is a increasing no confidence towards media, the young journalists should change the perception. There should be a bridge between the Karnataka Media Academy and media,” said Khanum.

Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations T K Harish, Chairperson of Journalism and Mass Communication Department, University of Mysore, Prof N Mamata, Registrar of Karnataka Media Academy Sahana were present.
