Mysuru: Several organisations protested against the newly proposed inclusion of cess on crematorium and parks in property tax by MCC recently.
Expressing their anger in front of deputy commissioner’s office, the protesters claimed that “this new cess is like rubbing salt on wound during Covid-19 crises and condemned the attitude of the MCC Council which has approved it. They demanded that MCC must first provide service for the taxes already collected.
They also demanded the immediate withdrawal of the proposal, immediate formation of Area Sabhas and Ward Committees as per KMC Act Chapter IIIA Sec 13 and allowing citizens participation in local self government, which the elected Corporators have been vehemently opposing, thus insulting 74th Constitutional Amendment and several circulars by Urban Development Department.
They also demanded that the Council resolution, along with all other financial details, including revenue collection against set targets etc., be put on the MCC website immediately.
Later the protestors went to MCC Office to hand over a memorandum to the Mayor and MCC Commissioner but both were absent, as they were busy attending to arrangements for Dasara. Memorandum was later handed over to their PAs.
Bhanu Mohan, Shivakumar, Manikantan, Veerendra Kumar, Shivu, Nasser Korikar, G V Malavika and R Prasad participated in the protest.
