MCC budget gives boost to online property tax collection

Mysuru: Online property tax collection, controversial Sewage Farm to be developed as park and developing free wi-fi hotspots are some of the key decisions taken during the Mysuru City Corporation budget meeting here on Monday.

MCC finance Standing Committee chairperson K Nirmala presented Rs 878 crore budget for the civic body for the year 2020-21.

Aims at online property tax collection

Elaborating on the plans, Nirmala said the MCC aims to digitize all its digital infrastructure to bring in transparency to ensure effective tax collection. On priority, property tax and commercial tax collection process will be digitized.

Honour to Corona warriors

The MCC has dedicated Rs 50 lakh fund to honour Corona warriors and to encourage production of masks and sanitisers in each wards. To commemorate erstwhile Maharaja of Mysuru Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’s birth anniversary, the MCC will honour Corona Warriors. Already, Rs 1 lakh fund has been given to each wards towards production of masks and sanitisers. This will be enhanced in the coming days.

Beautiful park on sewage farm

The controversial Sewage Farm will soon get a makeover of a beautiful park. Yes, you read it right. While the City’s BJP leaders are at loggerheads over the Sewage Farm at Vidyaranyapuram, the civic body plans to develop it as a beautiful park.

D Devaraja Urs road to be developed

Apart from this, the MCC wants to focus on developing prominent roads in City on global standards. As per the plan, D Devaraja Urs Road has been selected to be developed on global standard for which Rs 5 crore has been earmarked.

Wi-Fi like Vermont Model 

On the lines of Vermont Digital Economy Model, the MCC plans to provide free Wi-Fi hotspots in the City.  A sum of Rs 2 lakh has been earmarked as the initial amount to develop Wi-Fi hotspots. It also plans to provide free internet for poor and students. 

Pink toilets

MCC plans to construct pink toilets exclusively for women at populated areas. These toilets will be built at some of the populated areas and Maharani’s Women’s College at a cost of Rs 25 lakh. 

Applauding the budget, MCC opposition party leader Subbaiah said that online property tax system was the long-pending requirement to the civic body.

Prior to the meeting, the MCC offered condolences to poet K S Nisar Ahmed, who passed away recently. 

Mayor Tasneem, deputy mayor Sridhar and Corporation Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde were present.
