2 min read

Mysuru: As the countdown begins to elect new mayor of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), it appears that all the three prominent political parties are trying their luck on their own, albeit with the support of cross voting and last minute surprises.

BJP has fielded third time Corporator Shivakumar from Ward 47 for Mayor’s post, while K V Sridhar the independent Corporator from Ward three who joined JDS later has filed his nomination from regional party. While from Congress two-time Corporator Syed Hasrathulla from Ward 29 and first time Corporator J Gopi from Ward 43 have filed their papers.

If the sources are to be believed, Congress has issued a whip to all its Corporators three days in advance, while JDS issued the whip on Monday late night hours.

Any party to win the election needs 37 votes against the total 76 votes including 65 Corporators and MP, MLAs and MLCs totalling 11 with the right to vote.

BJP is the single largest party with 22 Corporators, which also has the votes of one MP, two MLAs S A Ramadass and L Nagendra and MLC A H Vishwanath totalling 26 votes.

Congress has 20 Corporators, followed by three MLCs- Dr D Thimmaiah, Dinesh Gooligowda and Madhu G Madegowda and lone MLA Tanveer Sait totalling 24 votes.

JDS has 17 Corporators followed by lone MLA G T Devegowda and two MLCs- C N Manjegowda and Marithibbegowda totalling 20 votes.

BSP has a lone Corporator.

Apart from them, two each of Corporators support Congress and JDS and one has sided with BJP.

The mayor post is reserved for general category and deputy mayor for BCA woman.
