Mayoral polls! BJP women Corporators jump into fray

Mysuru: BJP Corporators Geetha Yoganand and Shanthamma Vadivel filed papers as mayor and deputy mayor candidates respectively on January 18.
Geetha and Shanthamma handed over their papers to Council Secretary Rangaswamy at the old council hall in the first floor. They were accompanied by outgoing opposition leader in MCC B V Manjunath, Corporators Shivakumar, Subbaiah and others.
BJP has the highest of 22 corporators and three other elected representatives- one MP and two MLAs with voting power taking the total to 25 votes, but still the chances of winning the election is bleak.
JD(S) and Congress which have entered into alliance have a total of 37 votes from the Corporators alone, apart from MLAs and MLCs.
Mayor post is reserved for backward classes ‘A’ woman and deputy mayor for scheduled caste.
