Mysuru: Mayor Shivakumar performed a ground-breaking ceremony to take up restoration works on Dodda Gadiyara, a heritage structure here on Wednesday. Renovation works will be taken up by the Mysore City Corporation in association with the Department of Archaeology Museums and Heritage. Chamaraja Constituency Legislator K Harish Gowda, Deputy Mayor Roopa, Mysore City Commissioner Ashaad Ur Rahman Shariff and other officials were present.

The Silver Jubilee clock was inaugurated on August 8, 1927 to commemorate 25th anniversary of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’s administration in Mysore State and the tower is 75 ft, informed Heritage Experts Committee member and Excavation expert NS Rangaraju to Mysoorunews.com.

It will be renovated keeping its heritage significance in mind. As part of this, a drone survey was conducted besides drawing an imaging of the whole structure. According to this, the renovation is being carried out.

The clock tower’s most visible object, the dome bell has been imported from France, he said. Besides, sandstone – brought from Rajasthan – that was used to build the structure, will be utilized again. About 30 per cent of the copper plate that was used to shield it from thunder and lightening has been stolen. But, the restoration work will take care of this too, he added. The whole restoration work would take approximately 10 months.
