Bengaluru: Veteran theatre person Master Hirannaiah (85) passed away on Thursday. He was suffering from liver related ailments and was admitted at BGS Hospital, where he passed away.

A native of Mysuru where he was born on February 15, 1934 and was the son of ace theatre person and actor K Hirannaiah. He was born as Narasimha Murthy and later came to be known as Hirannaiah, after inheriting his father’s legacy at the age of 19. It was named Hirannaiah Mitra Mandali in 1953 the year his father passed away.

A student of Sarada Vilas Educational Institution in Mysuru, he had founded ‘ Agraha’ theatre troupe in the college days.

He was also a paper boy in his initial days and was distributing Kannada newspapers like -‘Sadhvi’ and ‘Mysooru Patrike’ which are still in circulation in Mysuru.

Known for his political sattire ‘Lanchavathara’ which has seen over 11,000 shows, he was equally popular for his other dramas like- Nadubeedhi Narayana, Makmal Topi, Kapimushti, Devadasi, Sanyasi Samsara, Chapalavathara, Double Thaali

He had also acted in over 30 films like Sunil Kumar Desai’s ‘Re’, Master Kishan’s ‘C/O Footpath 2’, Sudeep’s directorial ‘No 73, Shantinivasa’ to name a few.

He was bestowed several awards like- Gubbi Veeranna Award, Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, Drama Academy Award, Alva’s Nudidiri Award and several others.

He leaves behind wife and five children including actor son Babu Hirannaiah.

As per his last wishes, the mortal remains of Hirannaiah will be kept at his Banashankari residence from 12.30 pm to 3 pm.

The last rites will be conducted at Banashankari Electric crematorium at 4 pm.
