Mysuru: Countdown has begun to welcome New Year, albeit with the restrictions of Night Curfew imposed to check unabated revelry that add to the risk in Covid times escalated with the threat of it’s new variant Omicron.

Most of the people, especially tourists who have arrived in the city however have their own plans. To welcome 2022  in indoors at their own comfort in their rented rooms at hotels and lodges.

Mysuru one of the top tourist destinations saw a surge in tourist footfalls on Friday as 90 per cent of the rooms are booked.

The surge is expected to continue from new year eve on Friday to weekend Saturday the first day of 2022 and culminate on Sunday.

Abiding by Night Curfew restrictions, hotels and restaurants have refrained from decorating the premises. The 50 per cent occupancy restriction is another reason for cutting down the spirit of many including the hospitality industry.

Hotel Owners Association, Mysuru President C Narayanagowda said “in city alone there are around 10,000 plus rooms, with people and tourists in weekend mood already checking into them. In the case of five to six members party, the plan is to celebrate New Year in the room only.”

City Police Commissioner Dr Chandragupta told media, “from December 31 up to January 2 extra restrictions are imposed. The roads in and around Mysore Palace are closed today.  The vehicle movements and public gathering in the open are barred after 10 pm.”
