Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambareesh announces her support to BJP in the upcoming Assembly polls

Mandya: Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambareesh who kept everyone guessing about her next political move, announced here on Friday that she will extend her support to BJP candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections in Mandya district.

Addressing a press conference here at her residence, MP Sumalatha Ambareesh stated that the country is progressing under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and for the future of Mandya, she has decided to support BJP in Karnataka.

Reminiscing her political journey in the last four years, the actor-turned politician said politics was not necessary for her but it was purely coincidental. She also stated that she is not selfish but only wants Mandya district to be a developed district. “Neighbouring districts of Mandya are witnessing development but Mandya suffered on many aspects. When I plunged into politics, I witnessed, there was no good infrastructure, leave alone the trace of development. The people of Mandya believed in me and elected me to represent them. I have been giving my all to utilise my opportunity as an MP to take the district on the path of development.” She listed out various developmental works in the district that have seen the light of the day due to her effort.

Taking a dig at rival parties, MP Sumalatha said “I have been wrongly portrayed as not doing much to the district, all this while. So, it was necessary for me to counter the facts. I have honestly worked for the development of the district and am ever-conscious to uphold the respect that the people of this district have given to my husband Ambareesh and me. Had I not appealed before the Centre, the MySugar factory could not have reopened today. I have strived hard to put a fullstop to rampant illegal mining in the district.” She also said that a housing project for the poor that Ambareesh had dreamed of has been completed and today, as many as 625 houses have been constructed. “I am content that I have fulfilled Ambareesh’s dream,” she added. She also stated that the district was in second position in MGNREGA work and is ahead of other districts in holding DISHA meetings.

Without taking names, she said political parties with fame and power did not even respect her as a woman, leave alone as another party leader. “Every step of my work, I was ridiculed, laughed at. But, I have chosen this field and I will fight all the odds ahead of me.” She also commented that people are tired of political speeches here but need only development.

Explaining that she received full co-operation for her works from BJP and Narendra Modi government to carry out development works in the district, she said it was but natural for her to support BJP for the sake of Mandya’s future. “I may not be in politics tomorrow and that’s not important. What is important is the future of Mandya. I will work for Mandya until my last breath,” she said, emotionally. Considering their support to my aspirations for Mandya, she said she has decided to extend her support to BJP.
