1 min read

Mysuru: Mahisha Dasara began in the city on Tuesday with a procession of idol of demon king Mahishasura from Budda Vihar at Ashoka circle to Dr B R Ambedkar Park in Ashokapuram in the city.

As the district administration refused permission for organising Mahisha Dasara near the statue of the demon king at Chamundi Hill, the celebration committee shifted the venue to Ambedkar Park.

A tableau with paintings of Mahishasura and the gilded idol of Mahishasura kept on the top was taken out during the procession.

BSP leader and former mayor R Purushottham, Urilingipeddi Mutt, Gandhinagar, Seer Sri Jnanaprakash Swamiji and Manorakkitha Bantheji of Jethavana, Kollegal presided during the event.

Purushottham said “While the Constitution guarantees religious rights to every citizens, our letter seeking permission to celebrate Mahisha Dasara atop Chamundi Hill was not considered by the deputy commissioner. City Police deployed a huge police force at Chamundi Hill and Ashokapuram. We have not lost hopes and will soon launch a legal recourse. We hope the next government itself will host Mahisha Dasara,” he added.

Jnanaprakash Swamiji questioned whether the government was ruling on the ethos of Constitution. We have a doubt that they are going against the Constitution. The district magistrate (deputy commissioner) failed to ensure equal justice to all the citizens. They are feared about inviting the wrath of some persons in Mysuru, said Swamiji.
