Mysuru: With the fiscal discipline being the need of hour, adopting Mahatma Gandhi’s way of simple living can be the solution for the future, said former MLA A H Vishwanath.

Speaking to media persons in Mysuru on Wednesday, he said that simple living and sacrifice will make more sense in revamp of economy, which is in bad shape.
” The Development has received a major set back. If we need to revamp the economy there should be sacrifice. It should start from the Chief Minister and Cabinet Ministers,” he said.
When pointed out to the Rs 20 lakh crore special economy package announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vishwanath welcomed it and said that effective distribution of the resource allocated is the need of the hour.
Explaining about the current economic scenario of the state he said that the State government is spending 21 percent of budgetary allocation to salary and allowances.
” It needs to remodel the allowances. Few retired IAS officers are getting nearly one  lakh rupees as pension. The government wants to avoid unnecessary financial burden. Luckily, the government staff and rich people are ready for more sacrifice,” he said.
Appreciating the State’s effort to manage Coronavirus, he said that the State government framed Covid Surveillance committee, which comprises five IAS officers and one IFS officers.
” I demand  that they should include at least three medical experts in the committee, because they are experts in controlling the pandemic. Even PM Narendra Modi said Karnataka is in second position in Covid management,” he added.
