Mahashivaratri! Even after 69 years, Trineshwara Swamy in Golden Mask continues to attract devotees

Mysuru: Every Mahashivaratri Mysore Palace attracts scores of devotees, for the Golden attraction that still shines for close to seven decades.

Trineshwara Swamy Temple within the precincts of Palace near Jayamarthanda Gate attracts people from every nook and corner for the presiding deity decorated with Golden Mask.

The Shivalinga at the temple is covered with gilded metal cover, once in a year on Mahashivaratri only.

On Monday the 11 kG golden mask was removed from the district treasury and handed over to the temple authorities. On Tuesday, the idol of Shivalinga will be decorated with the mask, followed by various rituals like- Rudrabhiskha, Rudra Parayana and Rudrakshi Mantapotsava.

The mask (Chinnada Kolaga) was donated to the temple by last Maharaja of Mysore Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar on the occasion of the birth of his son Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar in 1953.

Sri Chamundeshwari Temple’s Executive Officer Yathiraj Sampath Kumar said “as per Covid protocol simple and traditional religious programmes are arranged at the temple. While we have handed over the mask today, it will be decorated on the idol on Tuesday”.

Temple priest Srihari told Mysoorunews.com “On Mahashivaratri day special puja will be performed four auspicious times at 3 AM, 4 AM, 4 PM and 10 PM,m. On the other days, the rituals will start at 5 AM from Abhisheka and Rudrabhisheka and conclude with Rudrakshi Mantapotsava”.

ACP ( Palace Security Force) Chandrashekar, officials from the district administration and police personnel were present.
