Maha twist! BJP, NCP join hands, form government

Mumbai: In a major political development BJP has formed the government in alliance with Sharad Pawar led Nationalist Congress Party ( NCP) in Maharashtra.
Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister and Ajit Pawar as his deputy chief minister.
It is the second term for both Fadnavis and Pawar in the respective office. They were administered oath of secrecy on November 23 at a simple ceremony held at Raj Bhavan.
BJP that had contested the assembly elections in alliance with Shiv Sena had won 105 seats and 56 seats respectively. But Sena had insisted on honouring pre- poll talks on equal sharing of power for two- and-a-half years each.
As the parties failed to arrive on a consensus, Governor had imposed President’s rule. In the recent days, Sena softened its stand and opened its channels for talks with arch rivals Congress and NCP to form government.
Sena wanted Uddhav Thackeray as CM ad after much prodding Sonia Gandhi too had consented.
When it was being speculated that Sena chief minister will be anointed, came a surprise development came with BJP forming a government in alliance with NCP that has 54 MLAs.
