2 min read

Mysuru: Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) Chairman L R Mahadevaswamy has requested animal lovers to donate funds to maintain zoo animals in the state in this pandemic situation.

For the second consecutive year, Mysuru zoo and eight other zoos across the state  are facing the threat of survival without animal lovers visit, that was earlier generating adequate revenue in the form of entry fee, for the upkeep of these facilities.

On Saturday, Mahadevaswamy said “previous year also Mysuru zoo had made a similar request. Now, unfortunately for the second time we are requesting the same animal lovers to loosen their purse strings to run the zoos.”

Mysuru zoo was established by visionary Mysuru Maharajas, and is popular among tourists and visitors generating sufficient income for the zoo. Also, Bannerghatta Zoo is popular and well maintained. The income generated from  these two zoos helped the authority manage seven other zoos including Hampi, Belagavi and Gadag to name a few, he said.

Last year district minister S T Somashekar contributed immensely by raising funds and donating it to ZAK. Fixed deposit of about Rs 30 crore including both Mysuru zoo and Bannerghatta helped in managing other zoos during the pandemic in 2020, he said.

In the coming months we need funds to manage our zoo animals. Hence, I request the businessmen and industrialists to be generous and donate funds for the cause of zoo animals.

Interested can send their donations to- Canara Bank, A/c – 17202140000028, IFSC- CNRB0011720.
