Lokayukta investigating officers will decide on inquiring into MLA Virupakshappa’s role: Justice Patil

Bengaluru: Lokayukta police who are investigating into the arrest of Channagiri MLA Madal Virupakshappa’s son while accepting bribe will decide on inquiring Madal Virupakshappa’s role in the case.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Justice Patil said that MLA’s son Prashanth was arrested while accepting Rs 40 lakh as bribe with regard to awarding tender to procure raw materials for the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (KSDL). The arrested Prashanth is a chief accountant officer in BWSSB. Along with Prashanth, the Lokayukta police have also taken other three who had also come to bribe accused Prashanth and Prashanth’s accountant. From accused Prashanth’s office, the Lokayukta have recovered Rs 40 lakh that was being given as bribe and Rs 1.62 cr unaccounted cash. From his house, Rs 6.10 cr unaccounted cash has been recovered.

Justice Patil said that the investigating officers will inquire into the role of MLA Madal Virupakshappa, who also happens to be chairman of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (KSDL).

Lokayukta police have arrested all the accused under Prevention of Corruption Act and were produced before the special court. They have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
