Bengaluru: Like father like son. It’s apt to describe the newly elected Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai who joins the rare club of decorating Chief Minister’s Office, that was once adorned by his father S R Bommai.

Bommai senior was the 11th chief minister  of Karnataka, who served for a brief period from August 13, 1988 to April 21, 1989. As the then chief minister Ramakrishna Hegde vacated office, Bommai was elected his successor.

In a similar situation Basavaraj Bommai was elected as a successor to B S Yediyurappa after the latter resigned after completing two years in office.

Bommai will get less than two years in office with next elections due in April 2023.

Previously, it is H D Kumaraswamy and his father former prime minister H D Devegowda who both had served as chief ministers.

Interestingly all the four are from Janata Parivar. Before switching over to BJP in 2008, Basavaraj Bommai was with Janata Dal (U).
