1 min read

Kollegala: A leopard has been spotted at the premises of Morarji Desai School and Kittur Rani Chennamma School premises near Kollegal, scaring children and faculty.

Some of the faculty at the Morarji Desai School located at the foothills of BR Hills that falls in Gundal forest range reportedly spotted a leopard a couple of days back and they are now feared about the safety of children and themselves.

There are at least 450 students in the campus and the faculty are working under constant fear. Everyday, students have to walk a bit distance between hostel and school buildings thus becoming easy prey for the big cat.

They have now urged the authorities to build a huge wall with a solar-fenced wire to prevent the big cat from straying into the campus. For, forest officials’ efforts to catch the big cat – so far – have not yielded any results. The department has now intensified patrolling in the area with a team of 40 members.

There have been multiple reports that said that of late, leopards have been frequently spotted in Kampanapalya, Raksha Palya, Karalakatte, Jakahalli, Kurubana Katte and Arepalya area and those working in fields are scared to go to work. Meanwhile, there have been several incidents of leopards attacking livestock and this has added to the tension of parents of the wards.
