Mysuru: Panic gripped the residents of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar on Monday night when a leopard was found roaming the streets. The area is close to the Ring Road and it is believed that the leopard may have strayed from the Chamundi Hills.
On Monday night around 8.50 pm, several residents were alerted about the presence of leopard in their area on mike. This panicked the residents who began calling forest officials for help. However, naturalist Somashekhar, also the resident of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar, jumped into help calm the situation in his area. Along with the Leopard Task Force personnel, Somashekar alerted the residents not to venture out of their home and not to disturb the big cat, if they spot it. This will help the big cat to return to its place, he informed.
Through the night the task force personnel combed the area. They have now promised to keep a cage in the area.
Meanwhile, the police too visited the spot to instill confidence among the people.
