Mysuru: An injured leopard that was rescued recently atop Chamundi Hill succumbed at the rehabilitation center in Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP), Bengaluru.
On December 28, the female leopard with several injuries was spotted and on the same day forest personnel shifted it to Bannerghatta.
After thorough medical examination, it was diagnosed that the spinal chord was damaged. However, the cause of injury is not known yet- whether it is a case of hit and run or any other reasons, is still unknown.
Earlier the leopard had been spotted in camera trap several times.
According to forest personnel, “the leopard (CML-04) was captured 41 times in our camera traps placed near Gowrishankar Nagar, Hosahundi, Parushunayakanakere, Chamundipura, Rajendravilas Palace and other locations. In 2017 also, it was found with a three to four months old cub. From its body size estimate, the leopard may be at least 10 years old”, the forest officials added.
