Mysuru: What comes to your mind when you listen to word ‘Voice’? India’s Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar’s voice?! I am sure most of the older generation people would remember her and the current generation would remember Shreya Ghoshal, right?
But, have you ever given a thought about your own voice? Don’t you think that our voice box (larynx) is our friend who helps you to communicate with others and reach our thoughts and feelings to others? It is very important for us to take care of our voice box like how we take care of other body parts.
When we cough/clear throat/smoke/drink alcohol/burp due to acidity it gets hurt! If it repeatedly gets hurt, it will lead to voice disorders where you might have to end up showing to an ENT doctor or voice therapist to have the normal voice back.
Here is a small video on vocal hygiene tips in the form of a comic where there is a boy talking to his own voice box called Lary!
Here, Lary is helping him to understand how to take care of his voice.
Note: This video was prepared at Indian Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ISHA) on account of World Voice Day (April 16, 2021).
The Executive Members of ISHA requests you to take care of your voice by following all the simple vocal hygiene tips that Lary suggested the boy in the video also, kindly
share this information with your dear and near ones and be a part of this awareness drive.
