Mysuru: “Ladakh is stepping towards development, as educational institutions are coming up at climatically fragile region”, opined Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal.

Mahabodhi School at Saraswatipuram in the city had organized felicitation ceremony and Student interaction session with Jamyang Tsering Namgyal on Saturday.

Namgyal is on a week long tour of the State and visited Mysuru on Saturday and took part in the felicitation ceremony and interaction with children.

Namgyal said “though Ladakh lags behind in education and development, it is rich in cultural and natural ambience. It’s climatically a challenging place to compete with the mainstream societies of India. Unlike the last seven decades, without any impetus to teach science, no medical college and university, the scenario is changing in Ladak for the last two-and-a-half years. Now it has got medical education facility and many colleges to enable education marking the beginning of progressive era. Earlier we were educational refugees and now it has changed”, added Jamyang.

In his interaction with Jamyang, Samitha a class 9 student asked to reduce the age limit to contest elections so that the youngsters can enter parliament.

Jamyang said “it is a democratic set up and the students must mainly study hard and focus on learning everything and join local systems which believe in democracy”.

Another student from Himayalan region said “the developmental works will cause distraction in Himalayan region and the impact will be on cultural diversity of Ladakh”.

Jamyang who lauded the questions said “We the people of Ladakh and almost all the Himalayan region people depend upon Glacier water not rain water like in Mysuru. Global warming and climate change is causing an impact on the glacier posing a life and death question for Himalayan citizens. But as per the people’s aspiration we are developing. Central government and ladakh government is committed to protect the habitat. We are also working towards making Carbon Neutral Ladakh, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on turning the whole Himalayan region into zero carbon footprint region”, Namgyal said.

Another student asked which is your favorite place like Taj Mahal or Mysore Palace?

Jamyang wanted to answer only after visiting the Palace, which was on his itinerary.

Jamyang will be travelling towards Hubli by train later in the night.
