Lack of beds forces Covid patients, kin to resort to political might

1 min read

Mysuru: As the Covid cases are on the rise, there is also a growing demand for beds at hospitals in the city irrespective of government or private hospitals for treating the patients.

When it comes to beds with ventilator facility, it’s not that easy again to avail the benefit. Hence, the relatives of such patients are using all their political influence to get the facilities.

As a result the leaders irrespective of serving or former legislators and even former MPs are feeling the heat. The top bureaucrats are also not spared, as they are flooded with calls from those in their know how.

Former MLAs Vasu and M K Somashekar on Tuesday alleged that “it’s very hard sometimes to attend calls from Covid positive persons and their relatives. It has become common to influence authorities to provide beds”.
Mysuru is witnessing average of 500 Covid cases per day and death rates are also high. Till date 706 deaths are reported and active cases have touched 4,487 against the sum total of 30,308 cases.
