KSOU aims 5,000 enrolments at Mandya Regional Centre: VC Prof Vidyashankar

Mandya: Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) VC Prof S Vidyashankar on Friday announced that the university aims to enrol at least 5000 students this year against 1200 enrolled in the previous year at Mandya regional centre.
Addressing media persons at the regional centre, Vidyashankar said “with the stress on dual degree programme, the number of admissions are expected to go up. It is intended to enrol one lakh students across the State and provide quality education. UGC recognition has been sought for BSW, MSW and MCA courses. We are confident of getting recognition and introduce these courses from the new academic year”.
From admission to marksheet every process is digitalised. The admissions are also made online and utmost transparency is maintained in the collection of fees. Well equipped regional centres are opened to facilitate students derive academic benefits at their respective districts.
Saying that the varsity is committed to provide higher education to all, VC said “gross enrolment ratio for higher education in the state is in the range of 25 per cent to 28 per cent. It has been planned to take it to 60 per cent to 80 per cent and provide quality education”.
Like private educational institutions, KSOU is also publicising the programs through pamphlets. The interested can access KSOU website through the QR code on the pamphlets and obtain all the information online.
Provision has been made to provide higher education to even those who can’t access. Free education is provided to those students who lost their parents to Covid-19 pandemic. Besides, 50 per cent discount is offered on fees for physically challenged, 25 per cent for women BPL card holders and 30 per cent for the children of autorickshaw and cab drivers.
Making use of relevant technology, study materials are regularly updated on YouTube channel of the varsity. The students can access them during free time and also hear to the lectures and Jnanpit awardee litterateurs. Various science courses like BSc and MSc have also been introduced. The labs have been opened to facilitate research and practicals and also video record them, said VC.
The varsity also has the pride of incorporating technology and providing technical education too. Job Fairs are being organised on a regular basis. Plans are on the anvil to create job opportunities for the students by having MoU with International universities, said Vidyashankar.
