Bengaluru: With a view to educating the coaches at the grassroots level, besides unearthing quality coaches, the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) is conducting a three-day tennis coach development course.

The KSLTA, one of the few state associations that has left no stone unturned in its efforts to promote the game and help the coaches stay in touch with the latest developments, has sought the services of Simon Wheatley of SW Nineteen, one of the world’s leading coaches and coach educators, to conduct the course.

The first of the three-module International 10 & Under player development qualification course began at its premises on Monday. Modules 2 and 3 will be conducted in May and September respectively.

One of the most respected coach tutors, Wheatley, who has a degree in Sports Development and Psychology, has trained over 15,000 coaches and teachers in over 40 countries.

The three-module course will enhance one’s coaching skills and help produce good players and identify talented kids and take them to the next level.

In all, 27 aspiring coaches, including seven from Tamil Nadu, have enrolled for the course.

The three-day course was inaugurated by India’s doubles ace Rohan Bopanna and KSLA joint secretary Sunil Yajaman.
