KSCA President Roger Binny adds pace to pending plan over cricket stadium in Mysuru

Mysuru: The long-pending demand to set up a cricket stadium of international standards in Mysuru got a fresh pace as Karnataka State cricket Association (KSCA) President Roger Binny met Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Commissioner Dr D B Natesh in the city on Wednesday.

Binny requested the Commissioner to expedite process on allotting land to KSCA to construct the stadium in the outskirts of the city.

A team of KSCA office-bearers led by its Binny and honorary secretary and spokesperson of KSCA Vinay Mruthynjaya called on both MUDA Commissioner Dr D B Natesh and Chairman H V Rajeev to discuss on handing over the proposed land of 19 acres in Hanchya-Sathagalli near VTU regional centre in the outskirts of the city.

The project has been delayed for many years and was gathering dust. The plan got a fresh pace with this meeting as both KSCA and MUDA officials seem to be on same pitch to bring this project which would further improve the tourism sector and usher in more development in the outskirts of the city.

Rajeev who held a closed-door meeting with the officials told reporters that “the authority has expressed all support to hand over the land once the government gives a nod.”

“The delegation will hold a meeting with chief minister and also district incharge minister S T Somasekhar on September 9 soon after which the process will begin,” he said and added that “if required a cabinet decision would also be taken in this regard.”

Vinay Mruthyunjay said “KSCA has plans to take up construction works of stadium at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore once the land is allotted.”

“We want to make Mysuru the next destination after Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy stadium for cricketing activities,” he said.

The project was delayed as MUDA wanted to give the land on lease while KSCA wanted to purchase on a sale deed. However, it is said that KSCA has now expressed its consent either for lease or sale.

Binny said “once the stadium is built, more cricketing activities and IPL matches would be brought to this ground which will make Mysuru a destination to watch and play cricket.”
