KPCC President D K Shivakumar defends padayatra for Mekedatu

1 min read

Mysuru: KPCC President D K Shivakumar on Monday reaffirmed that “Padayatra for Mekedatu is being taken out in the interest of farmers and people of Cauvery basin.”

Speaking to media persons after visiting Goddess Chamundeshwari temple at Chamundi Hill, Shivakumar said ” people of both Mysuru and Bengaluru have all the rights over Mekedatu as the Cauvery river flows between both the districts. The confluence of river is called as Mekedatu.”

Chamarajanagar is also a part of Mysuru and over a period of time many new regions have come up between Mysuru and Bengaluru passing through Mekedatu.

Defending the decision to take out padayatra, Shivakumar questioned the veracity behind similar exercises in the past.

BJP leader L K Advani took out a rath yatra during Vajpayee’s regime, and also H D Devegowda, while H D Kumaraswamy and former CM B S Yediyurappa also have such plans with the latter announcing to take from five different parts of the State.

Wasn’t there any fear of Covid-19? Wasn’t there Covid fear during elections time? Shivakumar shot back at his detractors.
