‘Kaviratna Kalidasa’ fame film director Renuka Sharma dies

Bengaluru: Renowned Kannada film director H Renuka Sharma passed away due to Covid-19 on Thursday. He was 82.

Sharma tested positive two days ago and was admitted to a hospital for treatment, where he succumbed, according to family sources.

With his death, Sandalwood lost yet another link with yesteryears, as Sharma had made a debut in early 80’s and remained active till 2005, when he directed ‘Mahasadhvi Mallamma’ which also turned out to be his last film as a director.

Sharma who faded off from the limelight, didn’t direct any films thereafter.

An expert in helming historical and mythological movies, Sharma directed Dr Raj Kumar starrer ‘Kavirathna Kalidasa’, one of the biggest hits of sandalwood, which still remains a crowd puller.

He also directed Ravichandran starrer Anjada Gandu and Kindara Jogi, followed by Sabarimale Ayyappa, Satkara, Kolluru Sri Mookambika, Ambarish starrer Professor among several others, which he also produced.

Film director T S Nagabharana, also Kannada Development Authority chairman remembered the contribution of Renuka Sharma to the film industry.

Following his death, the industry lost yet another veteran, as it was very recently that leading film producer Ramu also died of the pandemic.
