Karnataka’s first hi-tech floating jetty planned in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Karnataka’s first hi-tech floating jetty has been planned to be installed in the coastal town. The proposal of the project estimated to cost Rs 6.25 crore has been submitted to the government and the works will be taken up after the approval from the government.

Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath has said “the jetty has been planned in the interest of fishermen in the port, by incorporating latest technology. The concrete jetty will be 50 metre long, six metre wide and one metre of the surface. It will be of 180 tonne weight and can withstand double the capacity up to 360 tones of weight”.

The goods vehicles can reach the water through jetty for loading the fishes from the boats. Both drinking water and electricity connections will be made inside the jetty. It will be floating according to the water level.

The jetty will be built elsewhere  and brought to the port through sea route to install it. The fishermen will not be inconvenienced.

Designer of the jetty Milindar Prabhu, Amul and fishermen leaders Nitin Kumar, Rajesh Ullal, Mohan Bengre, Nitin Bangera, Ibrahim Bengre, Sandeep Ullal, Naveen and other leaders were present.
