Mysuru: The Karnataka Power Engineers Academy unveiled the second edition of its technical journal and a book titled ‘Basic Concepts and Fundamentals of Electrical Earthing (Grounding), authored by M L Sheshadri, at Hotel Southern Star in the city.
The event was presided over by the Academy’s President and CESC Technical Director Munigopal Raju and CESC Managing Director G Sheela, who jointly launched the books.
Speaking at the event, G Sheela emphasised the critical role power engineers play in the power sector, stating that CESC’s efficiency and success are driven by strong leadership and effective maintenance practices.
She highlighted the importance of technical workshops and problem-solving initiatives related to electrical earthing for staff development, adding, “The book offers foundational insights beneficial to engineers across various state corporations, and the technical journal serves as a beacon of knowledge for the engineering community. Restarting our journal is a new hope for engineers after the discontinuation of our earlier newsletter.”
CESC Technical Director Munigopal Raju stressed on the importance of leadership and collaboration in achieving efficiency in power distribution.
“Understanding the basics is key to problem-solving and avoiding accidents. The academy is bridging gaps by offering valuable resources like this book and journal, which act as essential tools for every power engineer. In the coming days, we plan to involve more talents and provide a platform for innovation,” he said.
Author M L Sheshadri called for “out-of-the-box thinking,” brainstorming, and documenting issues to prevent electrical accidents.
He cited three incidents, the Sharavathi power station mishap, an earthing station electrocution and a tragic mother-child death due to electrocution as examples of how negligence in earthing practices can lead to disasters.
U S Naik, head of the technical journal committee, noted that the journal aims to spotlight ongoing developments in the power sector and provide expert content for engineers.
During the event, ‘Matte Matte Male’, a poetry collection by power engineer Hemanth Lingappa, was also re-released.
The programme saw the participation of technical journal committee members, CESC staff and their families, making it a notable gathering for the power engineers community.
