Karnataka High Court Grants interim bail to actor Darshan for medical treatment

1 min read

Bengaluru: In a significant development, the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday granted interim bail for six weeks to popular actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is currently jailed in connection with the Chitradurga Renukaswamy’s murder case.

The interim bail was granted by Justice S Vishwajith Shetty to allow Darshan to undergo necessary surgery.

Justice Shetty’s decision came after hearing arguments from Senior Advocate S Nagesh, representing Darshan and State Public Prosecutor P Prasanna Kumar.

Darshan’s regular bail plea, challenging the trial court’s initial decision to deny bail, is still pending before the High Court.

The actor, who was arrested on June 11 and is lodged in Ballari Centeal Prison, filed his interim bail application on September 21.

Medical reports presented by doctors from Bellary Central Prison and the neurology department head at Bellary Government Hospital indicated that Darshan requires surgery for spine and foot issues.

Darshan’s legal counsel had argued that the actor should be permitted to undergo surgery at Apollo BGS Hospitals in Mysuru at his own expense. However, the State Public Prosecutor opposed the interim bail application, suggesting that the actor should undergo surgery at a government hospital and be evaluated by a medical board prior to any procedure.

Darshan stands accused in the murder of 33-year-old auto driver Renukaswamy, whose death is alleged to have resulted from an assault allegedly carried out under Darshan’s instruction.
