Mysuru: As the stalemate between the state government and film exhibitors continues, it may take some more time for the single screen theatres to reopen in the state.

Gowdar told media persons after the meeting “At first we were paying Rs 5,000 for licence, which has increased to 1.25 lakh. There are different rule for single screen owners in different districts such as Mysuru and Bengaluru”.
Earlier at the meeting, issues related to the effects of the pandemic on theatre owners and the government’s lack of providing  remedies were discussed at length.

The loss this year is estimated at over Rs 15,000 crore due the pandemic. Adding to this from the past years, there has been a significant hike in license fee, renewal fee and taxes. The theatre owners in Mysuru have already moved court, but that has led to nowhere.
The current situation also caused huge losses to the producers of the film industry as their main source of revenue is shut. With theatres being shut, the people would not be able to watch movies causing losses to the producers as well as the theatre owners.

The federation has come to the conclusion that all single screen theatres across districts will remain shut until the government tends to their problems.

In a recent guideline, the government allowed reopening of theatres and multiplexes from October 15. It has been made compulsory for all theatres to maintain social distance, ensure hygiene, sanitise, temperature check and so on. While the miltiplexes reopened, the single screen theatres continue to remain shut.

M R Rajaram Vice- presidentof the federation from Gayatri talkies, Jeevan of Rajkamal talkies and other prominent exhibitors attended the meeting.
