Bagalkot: Attacking Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah for choosing to contest from Varuna Assembly constituency over Badami – that he is representing currently – former chief minister B S Yediyurappa has said that he would take the responsibility of defeating Siddaramaiah in Varuna while people of Badami should teach him a lesson by ensuring victory of BJP candidate there. Shantanagowda Patil is the BJP candidate in Badami.
Campaigning for Patil in Keruru in Badami Assembly constituency on Sunday, the BJP strongman said that Siddaramaiah has cheated the people of Badami. “He was aware that he would not win from here, so he shifted to Varuna. People should teach a lesson to such leaders by supporting BJP,” he urged. The Congress has fielded Bhimsena Chimmanakatti.
It may be recalled here that Siddaramaiah had contested from Badami Assembly constituency in 2018. He had won against BJP’s Sriramulu with 67,599 votes.
He also accused the Congress of cheating Lingayat community. “It was the Congress government that asked then chief minister Veerendra Patil – a prominent leader of Lingayat community – to step down. The Congress leaders have done injustice to the community. They do not have any moral right to comment on the community,” he added.
