Karnataka elections: Veteran actor Leelavathi first senior citizen to vote from home

Bengaluru: Sandalwood’s veteran actor Leelavathi became the first senior citizen to cast her vote from her home this Assembly election in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Leelavathi, aged 86, who is ailing due to age-related illness had sought to vote from her home. The Election Commission has – this time – made a provision for senior citizens (aged above 80), journalists and those who cannot make it to polling booth due to some ailments to vote from the comfort of their home.

On Saturday, Leelavathi who stays with her son and actor Vinod Raj exercised her franchise at her farm house in Mylanahalli in Nelamangala taluk. She cast her vote through ballot paper.

This time, as many as 80,250 senior citizens and 19,729 disabled voters have chosen to vote from their residence in the State.
