Karnataka elections: Kharge faces BJP’s anger as he compares PM Modi to “poisonous snake”

1 min read

Kalaburagi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge drew sharp criticism for his remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi where he compared him to be a “poisonous snake.”

Kharge while addressing a campaign at Kalaburagi on Thursday, said “PM Modi is like a poisonous snake. You may think whether it’s poisonous or not. But if you lick it, you are dead.”

As his comments went viral, BJP leaders pounced on Kharge for making such comments.

Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje condemned Kharge’s comment and sought his immediate apology. “Being such a tall leader in Congress, his comments on the prime minister are utterly ridiculous. Elections come and go. We may lose or win. But you cannot make such comments on the prime minister,” she said.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai hit back at Kharge saying such comments have pushed the Congress to too low. Their addiction for power has not gone yet and that’s why they are making such comments, he said while campaigning at Konanakeri in Haveri.

However, Kharge did a U-turn in Gadag and said he did not name PM Modi but the BJP as party.
