Karnataka elections: I am no scapegoat and have a purpose to contest in Varuna: Somanna

1 min read

Mysuru: Apparently agitated over repeated reference to him as a “scapegoat”, BJP minister V Somanna, who is set to take on Congress candidate Siddaramaiah in a prestige battle at Varuna – this Assembly elections – Somanna said “He is not a harakeya kuri (scapegoat).”

Participating in an interaction with mediapersons here on Sunday, Somanna said that he is contesting in Varuna with a vision to develop the Varuna constituency, that has not seen any progress.

Drawing parallel to Govindarajanagar Assembly constituency (in Bengaluru), Somanna said today Govindrajnagar boasts of good infrastructure and it is one of the developed constituencies in South Bengaluru. But, he accepted the party’s offer to contest in Varuna and he has accepted the challenge.

He further said that “I am not a harakeya kuri. I am also a six-time MLA and know in and out of politics. Varuna has been neglected for the past 15 years and I have taken this as a challenge.”

When pointed out that Siddaramaiah ensured good infrastructure in Mysuru, Somanna was quick to counter that he may have done as a chief minister but what’s his contribution to his home constituency, Varuna?

When mediapersons pressed whether it is a burden for him to prove his worth in both Varuna and Chamarajanagar (where is also contesting), Somanna simply said that he has taken it in his stride and will work with a positive mind.
