Mysuru: At Siddaramaiah’s nomination filing process as Congress candidate for Varuna constituency on Wednesday, the spotlight also shifted on his grandson, Dhawan Rakesh, who accompanied his grandfather along with his mother and uncle and MLA Dr Yatindra Siddaramaiah. Seventeen-year-old Dhawan Rakesh, who is studying law, was here to witness his grandfather’s impression at Varuna as he fights his last election.

Former chief minister Siddaramaiah too seemed to be in a happy mood when he visited the family deity, Siddarameshwara at his native, Siddaramanahudi – that falls in Varuna constituency – flanked by his family members including his wife, younger son and MLA Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, daughter-in-law Smitha Rakesh and grandson Dhawan Rakesh.

At the public gathering, Siddaramaiah thanked the people for their love. “This is my last election. Thank you for all the love you have showered on me. I appeal you to shower the same love and affection towards my son Dr Yatindra and grandson Dhawan Rakesh after me,” Siddaramaiah said. He further said that Dhawan is still 17-year-old and studying law. He needs another eight years to enter politics. “I am moved by the love you all showering on Dhawan. His father Rakesh was very popular here,” said Siddaramaiah with choked voice.

As Siddaramaiah introduced Dhawan Rakesh to the crowd, he waved at the crowd who gave him a loud cheer and he was asked to stand next to his grandfather on the dais.

Earlier, speaking to a newschannel, Dhawan Rakesh said that he wanted to witness his grandfather’s campaign first-hand, so he came down to Varuna with his mother. He is happy the way the people are supporting his grandfather.

Rakesh Siddaramaiah died of multiple organ failure at a hospital in Belgium in July 2016. He was 39.
