Karnataka Bandh on Monday! It’s a call given by a few organisations for political reasons

1 min read

Mysuru: Even as various farmer organisations are fully geared up for Karnataka Bandh on Monday, Cooperation and district incharge Minister S T Somashekar called it as an act of farmers with a prejudice.

Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Somashekar who also holds APMC portfolio said ” only opposition parties and a few farmer organisations are only opposing the  amendments brought to a few of the laws only for political reasons”.

The farmers are apprehensive that multinational companies will takeover the farmers and the market. But in reality, it all began during the regime of previous governments and 49,000 licences are already issued”, added Somashekar.

The Acts are intended at freeing farmers from the clutches of middlemen. I have visited 27 districts and farmers are in fact happy about that Acts. The bandh which has been called tomorrow will not affect anything. However, APMC Amendment Bill was not passed at Legislative Council on Saturday, Somashekar said.
Mysuru and Kodagu MP Pratap Simha said “farmers will truly get freedom from middlemen at market and APMCs will be free from the menace of commission agents. Congress led governments earlier welcomed corporate companies with a red carpet and now they are claiming to be in favour of farmers. Tomorrow’s bandh will help those who are trying to encash the situation”, he alleged.
