Mysuru: Kannada Book Authority has embarked on a mega project to digitise hundreds of prominent works in Kannada literature. The magnum opus of around 750 works of about 300 poets will be made available in digital format at the cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
Kannada Book Authority Chairman Nandish Hanche told Mysoorunews.com “after taking charge of my new role, I had announced the intent to give a digital touch to prominent literatures in the language. Two teams of experts had been formed exclusively to put the plan into action. One is a technical team and another of litterateurs to decide the key elements in adapting historical works like Kavirajamarga and Vaddaradhane into digital format”.
The technical team headed by former VC K Chiadanandagowda and writers team led by U B Pavanaja, K P Rao, Vashudehndra and Narasimhamurthy decided and called the tender for e-publication. Many companies had participated in the tender and two among them were finalised- Bhashini and Sanchaya.com. We had given assignments to both the company. Bhashini completed 900 pages script to e-format within one-and-a-half day, with required standards”, he added.
KBA will seek government’s approval after Tuesday. The technical team has already met 15 times and around 750 most important works of estimated 320 poets will be converted to e-publication at the estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore, Nandish told.
Nandish also mentioned that Vachana volumes will be reprinted.
