Mysuru: Doctors of Government owned K R Hospital in the city performed a rare and complex surgery in the country.
A 72-year-old man from K R Pet, Mandya district, who was suffering from liver cancer, underwent a right hepatectomy at KR Hospital. Despite the patient’s advanced age and severe liver damage, the doctors conducted the surgery removing 60 percent of the organ with great success, allowing him to be discharged within two weeks. This remarkable operation has given the elderly patient a new lease of life.
Typically, such delicate procedures with severe bleeding, require the use of specialised quipment like the Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator (CUSA). Despite the hospital not having access to this device, the team at K R Hospital was able to perform the surgery with great precision.
The operation was led by Mysore Medical College and Research Institute’s Dean, Dr S Chandrashekar, alongside Surgical Oncology expert Dr Naveen Gowda, Surgical Gastroenterology specialist Dr Srivatsa and Anesthesia experts Dr V Y Srinivas, Dr Deepa and Dr Poolan.
Dr Naveen Gowda noted that, the successful outcome was a result of the combined efforts of the medical team.
“We are glad the patient recovered in just two weeks. This case proves that K R Hospital can provide high-quality healthcare. We encourage the public to trust our services,” Dr Naveen Gowda added.
The patient expressed immense gratitude, saying, “The doctors are like God to me. They have freed me from the pain and deadly cancer. I thank each and every one of them.”
