Jumbo fight in Bandipur! 40-year-old tusker dies, another injured

Mysuru: A 40-year-old tusker died in a fight with another tusker at Bandipur National Tiger Reserve Forest on Friday.

Two tuskers fought with each other at Kalasuru in Yediyala sub-division, Begur range of Bandipur National Tiger Reserve forest, according to a forest watcher who was an eyewitness to it.

One elephant aged around 40 years succumbed on the spot. The elephant had suffered injuries above throat region, below the ear.

As a safety measure, the tusks removed and were sent to Sriganda Koti (Sandalwood treasury) at Aranya Bhavan, the forest office complex at Ashokapuram in Mysuru.

Later veterinarian Dr Vasim Mirza attached to Bandipur performed the autopsy and buried the elephant as per protocol.

Yediyala ACF Ravikumar, honorary wildlife warden Kruthika Alanahalli, Begur range RFO Sachin and STPF staff were present.
