JSS AHER to host virtual workshop on ‘Biodiversity and Conservation: Issues and Challenges’

Mysuru: The Department of Environmental Science, Faculty of Natural Sciences, JSS
Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru is organising two-day virtual lecture workshop on the theme “Biodiversity and Conservation: Issues
and Challenges” on July 15 and 16.

This event is sponsored by the three
prestigious National Science Academies – Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru,
Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and The National Academy of
Sciences, India, Prayagraj.

The two days national event comprises of eight technical sessions and all the
resource persons are Fellows of the Academy of Sciences.

The participants will be UG/PG students, research scholars, faculties of Life Sciences and interested public.

The workshop will be addressing on the importance, major threats, and key challenges for biodiversity conservation, with special reference to the role of biodiversity in human welfare and balancing the ecosystem activities.

The inauguration of virtual lecture workshop will be held on July 15 at 9.30 AM. Dr Surinder Singh, Vice-chancellor, JSS AHER will deliver Inaugural address.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Balasubramanian, Director (Research)
& Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, JSS AHER and Prof. Raveesha KA, The Head,
Faculty of Life Sciences, will give opening remarks.

The details of resource persons are as follows – Dr K R Shivanna, Formerly Professor and Head, Department of Botany, University of Delhi, INSA Honorary Scientist, Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology & the Environment, Bengaluru, would be delivering a talk on “Sixth mass extinction crisis and its impact on biodiversity and human welfare”.

Talk on “Floristic diversity and its conservation in India” will be by Dr M 
Sanjappa, former Director, Botanical Survey of India, CSIR Emeritus Scientist, INSA
Senior Scientist, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK.

Dr Ramakrishna, former Director, Zoological Survey of India, will focus on
“Conservation of Biological Diversity and Challenges”.

Prof R Uma Shaanker, Professor, Department of Crop Physiology, University of Agricultural Sciences, G.K.V.K will be delivering the lecture on “Biodiversity and
Agriculture: implications for conservation of biodiversity”.

Department of Environmental Science, JSS AHER is offering BSc in Environmental
Science (3 years), MSc in Environmental Science (2 years – through regular and
open distance mode), Diploma in Environment, Health and Safety management (1 year – through regular and open distance mode) and PhD programmes.
