2 min read

Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri on Thursday made a fervent appeal to the people to join hands with the district administration in bringing down the Covid positivity rate in the district.

In a Facebook live, deputy commissioner  informed the decision of the district administration to impose five- day total lockdown from May 29, excluding partial relaxation on two days to buy essentials in restricted hours.

Underlining the necessity to practice self- regulation for a period of 10 days, as the current lockdown norms in the State will be in place till June 7, the deputy commissioner asked the people to abide by the regulations in the fag end of the lockdown.

Expressing her concerns over the increase in positivity rate in the range of 40 to 41 per cent, compared to the State average, the deputy commissioner said, there is a decline in case fatality rate at 0.63 per cent in the district.

The district administration believes in prevention is better than cure and is making all the possible efforts to detect the cases at the early stage. The Covid Mitra triage facility has so far tested 24,000 people followed by treatment.

Besides, the daily testings are conducted in the range of 4,500 to 5000 and hence there is an increase in positivity rate. Unlike previous year during the first wave when random tests were conducted, we are testing only target groups ( those with symptoms) this time. While all arrangements are made to treat the infected with oxygenated beds and ICU beds by augmenting the number of beds at government facilities.

Amidst this, the cause of concern is increase in Mucormycosis cases ( black fungus) with the experts even acknowledging the surge when compared to very minimal cases reported in the earlier days.

Those with comorbidites especially diabetes are vulnerable, especially due to few reasons. The late presentation (admission) of people, with symptoms at hospitals is also one of the reasons, DC added.
